Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

It's fancier, it's just not exactly original.

I've been wanting to wrap my head around CSS for a while now, but without a firm design concept for the site, I was finding it difficult to get my feet wet.

Laura Byrnes is a friend of mine who runs www.pinupgirlclothing.com. I've often heard her complaining of the inumerable poseurs who rip off her site. Badly. I decided that this constituted an invitation to rip off her site too. Laura seems quite happy when venting about people stealing her ideas, and I'm almost positive she'll appreciate this.

I'm not necessarily a fan of everything about Laura's site *cough*obnoxiouslylongnavigationstrip*cough*, and pink really isn't my color, but it's got enough going on to pose some technical challenges. The main goal was to approximate PUG's style with CSS only. I'm moderately obsessed with the idea of completely separating content from style. All the HTML on this page is pretty bland-looking when you turn styles off. It's just a few headers, lists of links for the navigation, and the text you're reading. The basic PUGification involves a lot of pink, images in circles, and capitalized text with a bigger font on the first character. And QuigleyWiggly. You must never forget the QuigleyWiggly. I forewent making an image for every navigation button because I don't have that kind of time, and I think you can do a decent facsimile without it. Notable changes are that you lose the dropshadows when going from pure image to text on top of a background, and I had to darken the font color to get a decent amount of contrast. You will also notice my lovely visage in place of PUG models, since I neglected to ask Laura for permission before this little stunt. No copyright infringement here, nosiree.

Oh yeah, and none of the links work (except for Karune Stats, which is geeky times ten). Sorry. Style, yes; content, still working on it.

Don't worry, Laura. This is just a placeholder until I cobble together something fancier.

A new begining.

4/1/2008 (Not an April Fool's joke, I swear.)

Greetings all. Ten months ago, I somewhat haphazardly "broke ground" here by actually putting some html in a file named index. It was meant to be a placeholder until I cobbled together something fancier. Ten months later, and I give you what you see now, a placeholder until I cobble together something fancier.

That is my new outlook for this site. It will always be a work in progress, even once I actually start getting happy with the look and content. It will be an iterative, evolving process. As you see it now, this page is better than what stood before it. Hopefully the next time it changes it will be better than what you see now.
